Bespoke Contemporary House, Jesmond, Newcastle
This project is a bespoke luxury new-build home in Jesmond, Newcastle, designed to create a refined, contemporary living environment centred around light, space, and outdoor connection.
The design responds carefully to the site, organising the home around how it will be lived in day to day balancing private family spaces with generous areas for entertaining.
Arrival & Architectural Form
The arrival sequence is defined by a strong cantilevered upper volume, where a darker, lightweight form appears to float above a solid masonry base. This approach helps to reduce the perceived scale of the house while creating a clear and confident architectural identity.
Although positioned to the rear of the site, this elevation becomes the primary entrance, allowing the main living spaces to open fully onto the garden. Carefully positioned glazing provides framed views into the home, giving depth and a visual connection between inside and out.
Living, Light & Outdoor Connection
The house is organised around a series of open-plan living spaces that extend seamlessly into the landscape. Large areas of glazing and strong horizontal planes create a clear relationship between the interior and exterior, allowing natural light to define the character of the home throughout the day.
A key feature of the design is the covered outdoor terrace and kitchen, which forms an extension of the internal living areas. These spaces are designed to support both everyday family life and larger gatherings, reinforcing a strong connection to the garden and outdoor environment.
Design Development
The project evolved from early concept sketches exploring orientation, massing, and outdoor living. These ideas have been refined into a clear architectural language, defined by clean geometry, contrasting materials, and carefully considered proportions.
The result is a contemporary family home in Jesmond that combines architectural clarity with warmth, creating a space that is both practical and visually distinctive.
